HVAC marketing in Manitoba

Manitoba combines one of the longest heating seasons in southern Canada with a genuine mix of gas and electric heat and some of the country's most active heat-pump programs. That makes it a strong market for well-explained heat-pump marketing, alongside core furnace work.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Manitoba is where cold-climate heat-pump marketing meets a classic furnace market. The province has long, very cold prairie winters, with a heating season among the longest in southern Canada. In 2023, 52% of Manitoba households heated mainly with natural gas and 33% with electricity, according to Statistics Canada. It also has open, specific heat-pump rebates. Program details below are as of October 2026.

The Manitoba HVAC market

Short answer: Winnipeg dominates, and a handful of regional cities offer less crowded opportunities.

Winnipeg heads the 2021 Census figures and Brandon ranks second, with Steinbach, Winkler, Portage la Prairie and Thompson rounding out the province's six largest. Winnipeg is where most of the search volume and most of the competition sit. Regional cities are smaller markets, so steady review work and well-built service pages can make a company the obvious choice faster.

The fuel mix matters for your pages. With roughly half of homes on gas and a third on electricity, you have two quite different audiences: gas-heated homeowners considering a furnace replacement or a heat pump alongside it, and electrically heated homeowners for whom a heat pump can cut running costs. Each deserves its own page and its own ad group.

Seasonality in a long-winter market

Short answer: heating demand runs for much of the year, so a fall-to-spring plan matters more than a summer one.

  • Late summer and early fall: maintenance and heat-load-calculation messaging, plus heat-pump education before the cold.
  • Winter: emergency furnace and boiler campaigns, fast answering and clear service-area statements.
  • Late winter and spring: replacement and heat-pump campaigns aimed at people who struggled through the season.
  • Summer: AC and heat-pump installs; registered suppliers may find the F280 bonus a useful prompt (see programs below).

Regulators to know in Manitoba

Short answer: the Office of the Fire Commissioner covers gas, oil-burner, electrical and pressure-equipment licensing.

We link and summarise; licensing questions belong with the OFC.

Programs that affect Manitoba HVAC demand

Short answer: open heat-pump rebates, no-cost programs for qualifying households and a closed federal oil program.

As of October 2026:

  • Efficiency Manitoba Air Source Heat Pump Rebate: open. Homeowners installing a ducted cold-climate unit in an existing primary residence can receive $2,000, or $1,500 for a ductless system. Suppliers on the program's registered list earn an extra $100 on each application that includes an F280 heat-load calculation, if it's submitted before March 31, 2027.
  • Affordable Home Energy Program: qualifying homes that now rely on baseboards, an electric furnace or an electric boiler can get an air source or ground source heat pump at no cost, with the install done by a registered program contractor. The program page is live, but eligibility details were not re-confirmed.
  • Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, Manitoba delivery: open. Manitoba was the first agreement, announced September 12, 2025, with nearly $30 million in federal funding for no-cost direct-install retrofits for low- to median-income homeowners and tenants, delivered by Efficiency Manitoba.
  • Oil to Heat Pump Affordability (federal): closed; July 31, 2026 was the last day to apply in Manitoba.
  • Federal: the National Heat Pump Rebate was announced on October 8, 2026 and is not yet open.

How we'd market a Manitoba HVAC company

Short answer: split gas and electric audiences, explain heat-pump rebates precisely, and stay emergency-ready all winter.

  1. Two content tracks. Furnace and boiler pages for gas-heated homes; heat-pump pages for electrically heated homes, each with the right program information.
  2. Rebate pages with dates. A single "Manitoba heat pump rebates" page, updated whenever terms change and linked to Efficiency Manitoba, beats rebate claims scattered across ads.
  3. Cold-climate education. Homeowners in long-winter markets want to know heat pumps will cope. Honest content about cold-climate models and backup heat builds trust. For a deeper playbook, see Heatpump.Marketing.
  4. Winter call readiness. Paid search with tight targeting and after-hours answering. See Google Ads for HVAC.
  5. Reviews in every market. Especially in Brandon and the smaller cities, where a strong profile stands out. See reviews and Business Profile.

Frequently asked questions

What heat pump rebates are open in Manitoba?

As of October 2026, Efficiency Manitoba's Air Source Heat Pump Rebate is open: $2,000 for a centrally ducted cold-climate unit or $1,500 for ductless, in existing primary residences. Confirm current terms on efficiencymb.ca before advertising.

Can I advertise free heat pumps in Manitoba?

Be careful. Free or no-cost programs exist for qualifying households, such as the Affordable Home Energy Program and the federally funded affordability program delivered by Efficiency Manitoba, but eligibility is limited and installs go through registered program contractors. Describe them accurately and link the source.

Who regulates gas work in Manitoba?

The Office of the Fire Commissioner's Inspection and Technical Services issues permits and tradesperson licences under The Gas and Oil Burner Act, along with electrician licences and boiler and pressure vessel oversight.

Is Winnipeg the only market worth targeting?

No. Brandon, Steinbach, Winkler, Portage la Prairie and Thompson are smaller markets where a strong local presence can often be built faster than in Winnipeg, because there are fewer search results to win.
